After graduating Queen’s, I will be attending a Master of Science in Modern Human Anatomy at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. I found my passion for anatomy after taking the basic ANAT 101 course, and I believe this Master’s program will open up many doors for me, as it incorporates not only all sub-disciplines of anatomy, but modern medical imaging and technology education as well. Afterwards, I hope to either apply for Medical School, or something else within the anatomy field where I can help make the same impact. H.K. – BSCH MAJ LISC, MIN HLTH
After four years at Queen’s University, I will be returning for this upcoming year for Teacher’s College, where I will be working with students from S.K to Grade 6. Graduating with a Health Studies Major, I have gained critical planning, implementation and communication skills that I hope to apply to my teaching career. As well, from my Health Studies degree, I now have a strong and confident understanding about the different determinants of health that can affect my students. G.F. – BAH MAJ HLTH
As a graduate from Health Studies, I will be focusing on trying to gain more work experience in the public health sector, and hopefully pursuing graduate studies in Global Health or Law School in the near future. I believe that combining both extensive knowledge of health/pressing health issues and the law could be beneficial to specific branches in the legal profession. I look forward to exploring the wide range of opportunities and to what the future holds for me! C.S. – BAH MAJ HLTH
Since completing my degree in Health Studies, I have returned home to Duluth, Minnesota. Throughout the next year, I will be serving at a popular fine-dining restaurant, teaching fitness classes, and continuing to train and compete in bodybuilding competitions. Additionally, I will be taking some science classes through a local college before applying to grad school, likely a Master’s of Public Health Nutrition, a dual degree program through the University of Minnesota. Queen’s Health Studies really honed my interest in health promotion and public health, but my passions also lie in fitness and nutrition, and a program such as the MPA in Nutrition would combine all my favorite aspects of health into one! After an amazing four years at Queen’s, I will be attending the University of Toronto this fall to participate in the Master of Public Health Program at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Specifically, I will be specializing in Health Promotion. Queen’s prepared me for this transition by offering health courses that provided an excellent foundation from which I was able to discover my passion for health promotion. In addition, my involvement with Queen’s Health Outreach (QHO) provided me with real world experiences and an opportunity to be involved in the Kingston community. A big thank you to the SKHS for guiding me through these past few unforgettable years- Cha gheill! A.A – BAH SOCY MAJ, HLTH MIN
My journey at Queen’s began as a member of Arts & Science’s Class of 2016. As I had followed my brother to this school, I had some inside advice to major in Life Science so that I would best be prepared for planned Medical School exams in the future. He suggested to me to take Health 101 and Health 102 as electives. However, when it came to declaring a Major in second year my initial plan diverted as I declared a Major in Health Studies. Following a succeeding two years of Health and Kinesiology/Physical Education classes I chose to end my mission to become a Doctor, and instead pursue a path which would allow me to engage in health policy. I have now been accepted into a Masters of Public Health and Health Systems (MSc) at Waterloo University which I will begin in the fall. T.M. – BAH MAJ HLTH
Upon graduating I have obtained a research assistant summer position at a hospital in London ON, researching specifically coronary artery disease. I am taking one year off school where I recently acquired a position as a Pharmaceutical Representative, promoting an innovative blood glucose meter, in hopes of improving the lives and convenience of those living with Diabetes. The health studies program re- affirmed my interest in working in the health care industry, and I plan to apply to the Schulich Masters of Public Health program at Western for 2017. Next year I will be attending Queen’s University to pursue my career in Occupational Therapy. I hope to apply the knowledge I have gained throughout my Health Studies degree to ultimately help others improve their quality of life. Ultimately, in the future, I would like to work with children who have developmental disabilities or brain injuries. M.O. – BAH MAJ HLTH
After graduating from Queen’s with a BAH in Health Studies, I went to work at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario doing research within the Department of Rheumatology. I am involved in all aspects of research – from enrolling study participants to writing literature reviews and doing lab work! I’m hoping to continue working at CHEO for the next year before applying to Medical School. BAH MAJ HLTH
After graduation, I intended to take the year off, travel, work, and take a few more courses to boost my GPA and help me with some Masters applications I had in mind. I had applied to several schools in Canada for Occupational Therapy, but was not certain I would get in. As it turns out, I got into Queen’s Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy! I’ll be continuing my time at Queen’s transitioning from Health studies and beginning Occupational Therapy here for the next 2 years. A.R. – BAH MAJ HLTH
This summer, I started Teacher’s College at Queen’s University in Primary/Junior Education. My undergraduate degree in Health Studies and Psychology has provided me with valuable insight and knowledge regarding physical, mental, and social wellbeing, and the complexity of their determinants. My studies and experiences have motivated me to work with children, and I hope to apply what I have learned so far in my future teaching career. K.P. – BAH MAJ HLTH, MIN PSYC
I have been accepted into the M.Sc. in Sports Psychology in School of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Queen’s beginning next fall. I plan to continue pursuing my sporting career both on the track and in the lab, with hopes of working in the varsity and/or academic setting down the road. J.S. – BAH HLTH MAJ
