The School of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Queen’s University will be hosting the Annual Donald Macintosh Lecture on:

This lecture is hosted annually at Queen’s University in memory of Dr. Donald Macintosh. Dr. Macintosh was Professor and Director of the School of Physical and Health Education at Queen’s University from 1965-1994. He was an early contributor to the field of sport sociology in Canada. Some of his most important work focused on the role of policy for creating equity and justice in sport.
We are pleased to welcome this year’s lecturer, Dr. Madeleine Pape from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, who will be speaking on:
Biofeminism: The epistemic politics of inclusion in women’s sport
Dr. Madeleine Pape is a sociologist and Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, where she is affiliated with the Institute of Sports Sciences, Centre for Gender Studies, and STS-Lab. She obtained her PhD in the Department of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019. Dr. Pape’s current work examines feminist and scientific debates over biological sex and how claims about sex difference shape the pursuit of gender equity in sport and biomedical research. At the University of Lausanne, she works with Dr. Lucie Schoch on a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation that is examining how international sports federations have addressed the under-representation of women in leadership. Her work has been published in a variety of journals including Gender & Society, Body & Society, Social Studies of Science, Big Data & Society, Sociology of Sport Journal, Health Sociology Review, and Sociological Forum. Dr. Pape is an Olympian who competed internationally for Australia in the 800m (track-and-field).
