Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowships

The School of Kinesiology and Health Studies welcomes applications for summer 2023 undergraduate research work opportunities. Funding for these positions are provided through the Tri-Council Agencies (CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC) and matching funds provided by SKHS faculty members. These positions provide undergraduate students at Queen’s meaningful opportunities to engage in discovery based learning to develop their research and presentation skills.

Salary: $17.50/ hr x 35 hours/week x 16 weeks = $9800. Positions begin in May and extend to the end of August. 

1. Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada – Undergraduate Summer Research Award (USRA)

Priority for NSERC USRA positions will be given to students registered in the Kinesiology program who would like to pursue research in the exercise sciences. Students must have obtained a minimum GPA of at least 2.7, although the competitive average may be much higher than this.

Positions are available in the following research labs: 

  1. Open to all KIN students: Human Vascular Control Lab – Dr. Michael Tschakovsky (faculty supervisor)
  2.  Reserved for KIN students who self-identify as Indigenous or BlackNeuromechanics LabDr. Jessica Selinger (faculty supervisor)
  3. Reserved for KIN students who self-identify as Indigenous or Black: Sensorimotor Exploration LabDr. Gerome Manson (faculty supervisor)

2. Undergraduate Student Summer Research Fellowships (USSRF). 

Priority for USSRF positions will be given to students registered in either the Health Studies or Kinesiology program who would like to pursue research across all disciplines in SKHS.

Positions are available in the following research labs:

  1. Community-Engaged Health Promotion ResearchDr. Lucie Lévesque (faculty supervisor) Note: preference will be given to a qualified Indigenous student for this position.
  2. In Situ Population Health Research LabDr. Eun-Young Lee (faculty supervisor)
  3. Neuromechanics Lab – Dr. Jessica Selinger (faculty supervisor)
  4. Sensorimotor Exploration Lab – Dr. Gerome Manson (faculty supervisor)
  5. Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Research UnitDr. Bob Ross (faculty supervisor)
