  • Students must submit a complete application form to be considered for the following awards. 
  • Application deadline:  March 1, 2024
  • Application forms must be completed electronically and submitted to skhs.ugassist@queensu.ca by the deadline. A complete application includes the application form, a current resume and a headshot photograph of the applicant.
  • Recipients will be announced at the end of Winter Term. 

CCUPEKA Leadership Award

Criteria: Awarded annually to a graduating KINE student in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies who best demonstrates leadership, academic success, and commitment to the professions of Kinesiology and Physical Education.  The student will have made significant contributions in leadership as evidenced by the student’s participation in any activities related to their degree during their undergraduate studies.

Eligibility:  A graduating full-time student in the Kinesiology program. Minimum GPA of 3.0 (overall B cumulative average).

Danielle Polk Memorial Award

Criteria: Demonstrates a love of the outdoors and outdoor activities, enthusiasm for life, love of humanity, and devotion to family and friends. Fundamental to this award is that the candidate should exhibit a positive effect on their family, friends, classmates and community, and have demonstrated a personal commitment to and/or volunteer experiences in outdoor pursuits.  Examples of a positive effect on others may include:  participation in a variety of outdoor activities; showing genuine compassion for others through volunteer activities directed to helping marginalized communities; providing encouragement for classmates to succeed; and showing thoughtful support for family and friends.

Eligibility: A full-time student in Kinesiology who will be entering fourth year in September 2024.

Don Krestel Memorial Award

Criteria: Promotes an appreciation of the community and the needs of individuals within it.  The nominees will demonstrate by their actions and experiences, the application of their knowledge for the betterment of those around them, particularly those who are marginalized (e.g. persons who are unhoused, persons with disabilities, etc.).

Eligibility:  A full-time student in the Kinesiology program. Minimum GPA of 3.0 (overall B cumulative average).

Fred Lamble Bartlett Memorial Award

Criteria: Demonstrates integrity, leadership and a sensitivity to and respect for the feelings of others.  This award is presented in memory of the first Director of the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies.

Eligibility:  A full-time student in Health Studies or Kinesiology who will be entering fourth year in September 2024. Minimum GPA of 3.0 (overall B cumulative average).

Health Studies Award of Excellence

Criteria:  Demonstrates academic excellence, strong leadership within the Health Studies student body, and has an exemplary record of volunteer work (minimum one hour per week) that aims to improve individual or community health.

Eligibility:  Any full-time student in the Health Studies program (Major, Joint Honours or Minor). Minimum GPA of 3.3 (overall B+ cumulative average).

PHE Canada Student Award

Description:  Awarded annually to a student in Kinesiology or Health Studies who demonstrates student leadership in the fields of health and physical education and related disciplines through promotion of health, physical activity and/or recreation.  

Eligibility:  A full-time student in Health Studies or Kinesiology with second, third or fourth year standing. Minimum GPA of 3.0 (overall B cumulative average).

W. K. Rowe Revved Up Legacy Award

Description: Awarded annually to a student who best demonstrates academic excellence and exemplary commitment to the Kingston Revved Up Exercise program.

Eligibility:  A full-time student in Health Studies (Major, Joint Honours or Minor plan), Kinesiology, or the Disability and Physical Activity (DIPA) certificate program with third or fourth year standing.  Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 (B+) with over 100 volunteer hours assisting Revved Up members, including at least one hour per week for one semester during the academic year in which the application occurs. Please note that volunteer hours completed as part of the KNPE 336 and KNPE 436 placement courses may be included in the total number of hours considered for award eligibility.

Ron Stewart Physical Education Prize

Description:  Established by associates and friends of Ron Stewart, B.A. – B.P.H.E. ’57, who during his undergraduate years at Queen’s was three times voted the most valuable player of the Senior Intercollegiate Football Team by his teammates.  Awarded annually to the student entering the fourth year of the Kinesiology program who has exhibited a high level of performance, leadership, fair play and team spirit in athletic endeavours.

Eligibility:  A full-time student in the Kinesiology program who will be entering fourth year in September 2024. Minimum GPA of 3.0 (overall B cumulative average).

Stephen J. Hobbs Memorial Award

Description:  Awarded to a student in Kinesiology on the basis of extensive participation in and significant contribution to student activities, particularly in the areas of Intramural sports and student government.

Eligibility:  A full-time student in the Kinesiology program. Minimum GPA of 3.0 (overall B cumulative average).
