Queen’s offers a wide range of entrance scholarships to students pursuing post secondary studies for the first time and is administered through Student Awards (Office of the University Registrar) – please direct all inquiries to their office.
C.S. Burton Entrance Scholarship
Established by C.S. Burton and awarded annually to a graduate of a secondary school on the counties of Frontenac, Leeds, Lennox and Addington, and Prince Edward, entering the School of Physical and Health Education at Queen’s University. Awarded on the basis of high academic proficiency and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
Janice Deakin Scholarship in Kinesiology
Established in October 2014 and revised in 2017 by Queen’s University in honour of Dr. Janice Deakin. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) program in Kinesiology.
Peggy (House) Leighton Admission Scholarship
Established in September 2015 by David Leighton, B.A.(Hons) ’50, LLD ’93, in honour of his wife, Peggy (House) Leighton, B.A. ’49, BPHE ’50. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering first year of a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education (Honours) degree or the Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Kinesiology in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies.
Dalton R. Mercer Scholarship
Established by Dalton R. Mercer, B.A./B.P.H.E.’56. Awarded to a student entering first year from Sutton District High School. Preference will be given to a student entering the combined program in Arts and Physical and Health Education. If no eligible candidate is available from Sutton District High School, the award may go to a student from either (1) Newmarket District High School or (2) Keswick High School.

The Elliott/Galasso Entrance Award
Established in March 2002 by Janet E. (Elliott) Galasso, B. A. ’59, BPHE ’60 and Dr. Pasquale (Pat) J. Galasso, B. A./BPHE ’55, Ph.D., in honour of their parents, Alexine S. (Lefebvre) Elliott and Carman D. Elliott, and Carolina (Aglialoro) Galasso and Costantino Galasso, who dreamed of and sacrificed for a higher education for their children. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic excellence, and community service to full-time students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Physical and Health Education program or the Bachelor of Science (Honours) Kinesiology program in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies.
The Plumley Family Award in Physical and Health Education
Established by Kent Plumley, B. Sc. (Chem. Eng.) 1960, LL. B. 1963, and Sandra (Macdonald) Plumley, B. A. 1966, and awarded on the basis of financial need to a student entering the first year of a Physical and Health Education program.
